The Town of Thurmont is pleased to announce the availability of grant funding from the Maryland Department of Housing and Community Development (DHCD) for external façade improvements to qualifying Commercial properties located within the designated Main Street district. This is a matching grant which means the Main Street façade grant program will match every dollar invested by the business up to $20,000.00. For example, if your rehab totals $5,000.00, the façade grant program will fund $2,500.00 once the program has been approved.
What Types of Improvements Are Eligible for Funding?
- Exterior cleaning, painting, and/or paint removal
- Masonry repair and repainting
- Repair and replacement of architectural details or materials
- Window repair or, in certain cases, replacement
- New awnings or the rehabilitation of existing awnings
- Roof repair
- Storefront/porch/entrance construction/repair
- Rehabilitation or compatible reconstruction of storefronts
- Removal of metal siding and exterior slipcovers (surfaces)
- Removal of inappropriate or out-of-date signage
- Repair or rehabilitation of signage
- New signage
Applicants should be able to clearly demonstrate how their project will contribute to improving our downtown business community and character. Proposed improvements that are more visible, those that have a direct positive impact on your business, and those that promote increased customer/visitor presence downtown are preferred. All projects submitted will be given full consideration.
